Dr. Markelle Smith has always been interested in medicine, science, and art which is why cosmetic dentistry was a no-brainer for him! After receiving his dental doctorate from UAB School of Dentistry in Alabama, Dr. Markelle Smith completed his residency at the Hospital for Veteran Affairs which is located in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Markelle’s artistic touch and focus on oral health make him one of the best dentists New York has seen in a long time, and we’re so happy to have him on our team. When he’s not in the office creating beautiful smiles, Dr. Markelle practices yoga and enjoys other hobbies such as reading, traveling the world, and discovering amazing new eateries across the New York area.

We wanted to let you know options are available to you to create that perfect smile. The five of the most common cosmetic dental procedures done here at our office located in the heart of Midtown New York City are the following:
1. Teeth Whitening
A regimen of brushing and flossing can keep your teeth looking good. However, some people need some help keeping their teeth looking white and bright. Dr. Mishaan can recommend one or more options for whitening your teeth.
The first and most recommended option is Zoom teeth whitening. The dentist covers your teeth with a professional strength whitening gel. Then, a special UV light is applied to help break the gel down so it can penetrate into the enamel of the teeth. This delivers the bleaching agent to where the discoloration lies. This treatment allows you to walk out with a completely transformed smile after just a couple of hours. This UV approach to teeth whitening is both FDA approved and entirely safe.
The dentist also recommends at-home teeth whitening using specialized products to keep the teeth white and bright.
2. Dental Veneers
If you have chipped, cracked or irregularly shaped teeth, dental veneers are an effective solution for transforming your smile.
Veneers are thin shells made from porcelain that the dentist bonds permanently to your teeth. The veneer is colored to match the surrounding teeth so it blends perfectly.
The dentist will take a mold of your current smile so he can customize each veneer for a perfect fit. The mold then goes off to the lab where they make the implants to his specifications. When they come back from the lab, it is time to install them. To accommodate the veneer, the dentist removes a small layer of surface enamel. He fits the veneer into place and then uses dental bonding to make the adhesion permanent.
3. Invisalign Braces
If you have misaligned teeth, braces are often the best way to straighten them. The good news is that you can use braces that are virtually invisible to get the smile you deserve.
Invisalign uses a series of aligner trays to move your teeth into place. Each tray is slightly different than the one before, gradually moving your teeth in the direction needed for a straight smile. You change aligners every two weeks until you achieve the look you and the dentist desire.

4. Direct Composite Bonding
Tooth bonding is a simple procedure that can transform your smile in just an hour or two. The bonding material is made from resin and inorganic materials that closely resemble the enamel of your natural teeth. The resin is available in different color shades so the dentist can find one that matches your natural teeth color.
The dentist creates a bonding material together with a conditioner that allows it to adhere to the tooth surface. He then applies it to the teeth, sculpting it into the desired shape. The material hardens quickly and bonds with the teeth.
Direct composite bonding helps solve many issues. It covers chipped teeth. It can bridge close gaps between teeth. It can cover stains and spots on the tooth surface. It can provide an instant fix for a broken tooth. It can be used to fill cavities.
5. Dental Crowns
For a tooth that is severely decayed or damaged, the dentist may recommend applying a dental crown. The crown covers the existing tooth, restoring its shape, size, and strength. Dental ceramic and metal are the most common materials used for creating crowns.
The dentist will first remove the damaged part of the tooth and prepare it for the crown. Then, he will take an impression of the tooth as well as the gum and surrounding teeth. He uses the impression to sculpt the shape of the new crown, which is made in our office. No need to wait for lab to return the crown. When the new crown is ready, it is a simple procedure to permanently bond it to your existing tooth. You have a permanent solution to restore your smile.

Educational and Research Foundation for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and Rickie Freeman, owner and designer of Teri Jon, have come together in support of Face To Face, the national domestic violence project. These two groups have joined together to fight against prejudice and violence in the world. Rickie Freeman, along with her friends and colleagues at Teri Jon are proud to support Face to Face, a project founded by the AAFPRS. Face to Face is a program which offers free consultations and reconstructive surgeries to battered and abused women all over the United States and abroad. Face to Face also sends respected surgeons to volunteer in developing countries. These surgeons travel all over the globe to help treat facial deformities in young children which are caused either by complications at birth or by early trauma. An event in support of these practices was held at the showroom at the Teri Jon headquarters in New York City and was attended by surgeons who take part in this program and their families, along with media representatives and select others. The event took place on July 15, 2008 and included a fashion show, luncheon, and a sale to benefit the cause. Another institution which came out in support of this worthy cause was The Midtown Dental Group, a New York City Dental Practice located on 37th street between 7th and 8th avenues. From November 3 – 7, Dr. Daniell Mishaan & ZocDoc held the largest ZocDoc Halloween Candy Buyback in the history of New York City! We invited children all across New York to hand in their candy at participating nyc dental offices, and get $1 per pound in return. Trick-or-treating is fun, but cavities certainly aren’t.
